Hello Summer!

Its (un)officially here. Warm weather, and long sun-soaked days. Even the nights are nice.
I don't have enough time to do a good update, so I'll just share whats been on my mind pretty much none-stop the last few weeks: summertime food and vintage swimsuits. Yup.

While nothing can come close/compare to the chicken and steak that my dad makes on the grill, these dishes looked pretty amazing to me:

Heirloom Tomato Tart
Popsicle time

Cherry Tart

And vintage swimwear. Sigh. Why don't we still dress this way? WHY?

 Off to the beach...

Before Blogging. And Email.

There was this. (photo via here)

Did you ever have a pen pall? Do you still write letters?
I do, although my reply's are few and far between I am afraid.

Señorita

Most of the time at work I am the only girl in the kitchen. There are two others, but they are both Pastry, and I am in what we call Savory. I'm not complaining though. It's quite fun. All of the guys have been very welcoming and nice to me. Case and Point:

The other day I was getting my cutting board - its a 4 1/2 ft by 1 ft. monster that attaches to my station on the line- from the dish room and noticed as I was walking out that it was still dirty. Hmm.
I metntioned it to one of the guys that was prepping food, and he grabbed it and marched it back in the dishroom, and started talking to one of the dishwashers. It was all in Spanish so I'm only guessing what went down, but I'm pretty sure it was something like this:

Guy:"Why does this lovely plastic cutting board have paper stuck to it and food stains?"
Dishwasher: "I saw them clean it the other night, do you need it now? What's it for?"

And then, the part that I did understand:

Guy:"Something something something la Señorita!"
Dishwasher:"Ah! la Señorita!"

He then grabbed it and washed it right away. No more questions where needed.

My main name here is Señorita. For real.

Cast Iron U.S.A.

Turns out there's a gal in Madison, WI making cast iron skillets in the shape of your state. Kinda cool, huh?

It made me think of two things. Tangled, and our old United State's place mat. Ahh I miss those things.

Here's more info on these cool pans.

(Isn't Wisconsin cute?)

In which I attempt the assembly of a Bicycle

I got a big box in the mail yesterday.
It goes to show how much of a kid I am that the first thing I thought of was how awesome a house it would make.

Well hello there handsome.

Two out of three is ok, right?

Ta DA!

Yeah, I'm sorry to say that that's as far as I got. Turns out you really do need all those tools. Who woulda' thought.

Stay posted for Part 2, which will probably feature lots of coffee, a toolbox, and phone calls for help. What it won't include: bicycle shorts. *shudder*

xo Happy Saturday.

Spring is in the Air. Literally.

The barista at Starbucks this morning told me that I (specifically my hairdo) reminded her of Paris. Morning Made. That's about the best complement you can give me. (It kinda looked like the girl above..)

The weather here in Chicago has been ridiculously beautiful. People are walking the streets with a kind of dazed look that I can only assume is a reaction to the weather.

I am at Work most of the week, and spring is out in full force.  These are some pictures that I took on my walk to church last Sunday:

An interesting fact about my walk to church. There is a little street that I have named Memory Lane, because I noticed something quite fun; the house numbers are years and as I walk down the sidewalk I go back in time. 2003, 1964, 1958, 1945, 1948, 1937, etc. Just thought I'd share. :)

When I got back to my apartement a few weeks ago look what had blosomed while I was gone:

My Christmas flower!

Enjoy the weather! xoxo
