I love cheese.
Anyone who knows me knows that already, but I figured I'd throw it out there.
So when I discovered this place the other day:
I thought I was in serious trouble of spending all my money on mac and cheese lunches. Stepping into the store, the walls are mac and cheese yellow, and its pretty calming. The dishes are a bit price-y for a college student, so I decided to go with the Good Old Fashioned, which was a plain mac and cheese with nothing extra in it.
Now, I really really wanted to love it. I figured that if this place can't make an amazing simple one, why bother with the expensive versions?
Well, call me a snob, but I wasn't very impressed. This is what it looked like:
And while it did look ok, and smell ok, I found it pretty lacking. It needed more salt, or sharper cheese, or something. And the texture and flavor of the sauce reminded me of the Mac and cheese that I used to love from our local Applebee's, and theirs was made with Velveeta, I'm pretty sure.
So while I wanted to give this place rave reviews, I can't. At least not on the plain version. Maybe the bacon or White Truffle version will be better..
Here is their website, so you can check them out yourself and let me know what you think.
Hey sweetie:
ReplyDeleteI believe real southern Baked Mac N Cheese sauce has eggs, mayo, mustard, and then cheese. I have an authentic recipie given to me by an authentic Southerner-let me know if you want it! It freezes well, so I have been known to make a big pan, and then put individual portions away for later/lunch
XOP
That sounds much much better! I would love the recipe, thank you!
